WHAT’S THE SOLARBUTTERFLY?
On May 23, 2023, Louis Palmer’s Solar Butterfly set off from the UN in Geneva on a 4-year trip around the world. By the end of 2023, the SolarButterfly has already covered 50’000 km and has visited 35 countries in Europe and North America. The goal: A journey through 6 continents and 90 countries in search of 1000 creative pioneers and their ideas and solutions to combat climate change.
The caravan trailer was the first vehicle in the world to be made from Ocean PET, i.e. recycled PET bottles from the Sea. Its highly efficient solar panels can generate enough energy to power the electric vehicle that pulls the Solar Butterfly, for up to 200 km a day. Everything works free of CO2. It is equiped with a living room, a bath room, a kitchen and storage for external solar panels and four people can comfortably sleep in it.
The goal: to raise awareness around the globe about climate change and the solutions. We want to hold 1000 events with the press, schools, politicians and entrepreneurs along the way. The SolarButterfly will finish its tour around the world in Belem, Brazil, in November 20225, at the UN Climate Change Conference.
The SolarButterfly shows: The whole world is about to change. Like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly: Away from the earth, away from fossil fuels – towards flowers, freedom and renewable energies.
During the conference, live broadcasts to the crew of the SolarButterfly are possible – to Amazonia as well as to Sydney or London.
